The Burns night is now sold out and the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage look forward to welcoming you tonight at the village hall from 7.00pm. Tartan and kilts are optional but hope that you will dress in the spirit of the occasion.

The Officers and Committee of the Sedlescombe & District Garden Society wish all readers a Happy New Year and would like to invite you to participate in some of their activities during 2014, their 70th Anniversary year. They have an interesting and varied programme of events planned for the year, starting on Tuesday, February 4 with a talk by Mr Hilary Newman on “The Winter Garden”. This will be held in the Village Hall starting at 2.00p.m. Non-members are always welcome at £2.00 per person but why not take full advantage of all our events and become a member for the very reasonable annual fee of £10.00 for a family membership or £7.00 for an individual. If you would like to see a village fayre take place this year then please mark your diary to come to the extraordinary general meeting on Monday, February 3 in Committee room 2 at the Village hall at 8pm. There will no choice but to wind up the Association, should no other willing volunteers come forward at that time, this will be a great shame and loss to the community. Please note this is a different date to the one previously advertised. Apologies for this.

The next monthly Coffee Morning and Mini-Market, sponsored by the Parish Church, takes place in the Village Hall on Thursday 6 February 2014 at 10.00a.m to 11.30a.m. As well as coffee and a scone, there will be stalls selling cakes and jams etc, bric-a -brac, books, plants and bird food, Church post cards and notelets, a raffle - and, for 50p, a chance to be weighed! As always, you will be made very welcome”

Sedlescombe Players next production is the musical ‘”Guys and Dolls”. Tickets are now on sale for performances at Sedlescombe Village Hall on March 4, 5, 6 for these nights, tickets are £10.00 without supper and on March 7and 8 tickets are £15.00 including supper. Seating will be at tables of eight, but you do not have to book a whole table.The show promises to be superb, with lots of toe-tapping numbers. Book early to avoid disappointment as it is sure to be a sell out as are all the Players productions. Safety is always something that we take seriously and Sedlescombe Neighbourhood Watch has been operating a number of years to ensure Our village is a safe place to live, let us keep it that way. The scheme offers many things including a link between the Neighbourhood Policing Team and the PCSO. and a link between the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. Home security visits without charge. Provision and fitting, without charge of home security devices such as door chains & window locks. This offer is subject to the availability of NHW funds. The loan of an engraving tool for the permanent marking of household goods. Payment of the first month’s rental and installation charge for Lifeline. This offer is subject to the availability of NHW funds.

Volunteers involved in the scheme will establish links with the police and try to resolve any difficulties with the service provided by the police. In the unlikely event of a crime being committed, the volunteers will work with the police to provide all possible assistance, subject to the agreement of the residents concerned. Offer assistance to any resident who may have difficulty in setting timing devices such as on table lamps. Encourage the use of the NHW email scheme. A reminder that there is a village diary in the Sedlescombe stores , our local shop, if your group have an event scheduled for the year please spare a few minutes to mark in the diary as this will help with planning and prevent clashes of dates.
