Senior police officer in wine theft charge found dead

A SUSPENDED police chief accused of stealing from Marks and Spencers has been found dead at his Sussex home.

Police are not treating the death of DCI Jim Torbet as suspicious. He was a Bexhill High School governor.

In September, he was arrested on suspicion of stealing wine from Marks and Spencer, at Holmbush, Shoreham, along with Chief Inspector Sharon Rowe, who is district commander of Worthing Police.

They were both suspended pending an investigation.
