It has been revealed that between June 20 and June 26, seven phone calls were received by police, raising fears for a man sleeping in his car and acting strangely in Beech Avenue, Bracklesham Bay.

However, officers attended and found he was committing no criminal offence.

Sussex Police liaised with both the parish council and West Sussex County Council as he was parked on the public highway.

At 3.25pm on Tuesday, June 28, emergency services were called to the same location following more concerns for the wellbeing of a man in his car.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroners officer has been informed and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Due to police contact with the man, the Professional Standards Department made a mandatory referral to the IPCC, which is now under consideration.
