Sewage Pollution continues at harbour- two months on

AN urgent new call for action over sewage pollution in Chichester Harbour - the biggest leisure-only harbour in the country and home to thousands of sea-birds- has been made.

Concern is growing over what is seen as a continuing health threat and Chichester Harbour Conservancy is demanding swift action.

The issue was discussed at its meeting in Winchester on Thursday and harbourmaster Lt-Col John Davis said members were especially concerned that pollution was still going on, having first been observed on February 14.

"Sewage which is untreated and just passed through a screen is even now, more than two months later, being discharged into the harbour," he said.
