'˜Shabby' Aldwick path condemned

An overgrown footpath has been condemned for making an area of Aldwick look shabby.

Stoney Stile Lane is a well-used route of some 500 yards between Barrack Lane and Pryors Lane.

But its condition has been allowed to deteriorate during this year.

Residents claim no work has been done on its grass borders and to cut back its bushes and shrubs.

David Adams, 82, who lives in the Royal Bay retirement apartments on Barrack Lane, said: “I walk along the lane every day when it’s fine.

“It looks absolutely gorgeous when it’s been looked after. It’s the equal of any park in Bognor Regis and they’re all good parks.

“But the lane looks awful now, especially when you know what it can look like.

“The grass should be cut and the bushes and trees maintained. I guess it all comes down to money.”

He said he was aware many other residents had complained about the state of the lane to various organisations.

Confusion about its ownership had led to their moans being ignored. The lane’s borders are owned by the Places for People housing association.

A spokeswoman for Places for People said: “We are aware of the concerns of residents.
