Southern Water to spend £1.3m in Fittleworth

SOUTHERN Water has announced it is investing £1.3m to improve its Fittleworth wastewater treatment works.

The treatment works, in Lower Street, serves more than 700 people in the area.

To ensure it continues to meet tightening environmental standards, new treatment tanks are being installed and existing ones are being expanded.

Other improvements are also being made as part of the project, which will ensure the treated wastewater returned to the River Rother is cleaner than ever.

Philip Jeyaseelan, Southern Water project manager, said: “This significant investment will ensure the site keeps providing people in the area with a wastewater treatment service that continues to meet tough environmental standards.”

The work, which is due to start this month (May), is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and is being carried out by Barhale Trant Utilities.
