Stedham villagers are still without power

Nearly 200 homes are still without electricity in the Stedham area tonight (Thursday, November 24) after a power cut in the village earlier today.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electricity said 196 customers were still in the dark: “but we are hoping to have everybody back with power before midnight.”

She said the SSE’s welfare van was in the village, parked at Common View and hot snacks and drinks were being given out to villagers.

This afternoon firefighters from Midhurst were called to School Lane, Stedham when an electricity pole caught fire.

It was believed SSE engineers had been working on the pole earlier in the day when the power cut was reported.
