Students tackle South Downs for fundraising

Benjamin Norris-Warton, Calum Ward and Robin Elliott, who have recently completed their GCSE exams, met through the Chichester Music Service.

To raise money for Help for Heroes, the team chose to walk the South Downs Way, while camping most nights.

They completed the walk in five-and-a-half days.

On the first day, they walked from Eastbourne to Lewes, and then on day two the team walked from Lewes to Upper Beeding and across Devil’s Dyke.

Day three saw the team head from Upper Beeding to Bignor Hill, and then on to Tower Hill on day four.

The hardest day for the team was day five, which led them from Tower Hill to Beacon Hill.

Leaving their camp at 7.30am, they arrived in their final stop, Winchester.

Benjamin said: “It has been a great experience 
for us all in project management, from initiating the idea to gaining support, sponsors, running a Help for Heroes Stand at Lavant Fete through to gaining publicity in the 
local press.

“We would like to thank every one of those kind individuals who gave us 
their financial support, as well as their huge encouragment and extremely helpful advice.

“It was an amazing 
feeling having completed 
this trek, and having raised above £1,000.

“However, we have still not met our target of £1,500, so should anyone wish to donate or even match the funds we have already raised, they can still do so at www.justgiving.com/chichester-youth-sd-expedition.”

“We have been so 
inspired through this first expedition, we hope to embark upon an even 
greater expedition in 2016 – so watch out!”
