Succession of crimes in district sparks police appeal

POLICE are appealling for help after a spate of burglaries and thefts in the Midhurst and Petworth district over the last few weeks.

A house in Bignor Park Road was broken into some time overnight between August 13-14. The burglars gained access to a barn and then damaged two gates and stole a caravan from the site.

The second incident in Wisborough Green, Petworth Road, saw another burglary overnight between August 14- 15. The property was broken into and although no items have been reported as stolen, an untidy search of the house was made.

On the same night a theft was reported in Fernden Lane, Haslemere after a fenced site was broken into, and a digger was stolen from within.

Another incident in Copse Road, Haslemere, saw a burglary where a property had been broken into some time between August 3-12, and a television was stolen among other items.

There was also an incident at a Midhurst shop on West Street, overnight between August 11- 12, where a shop window was smashed, although nothing was reported as stolen.

Fernhurst Road, Milland saw a break-in too, where entry was forced into a garage between August 9-15, and a John Deer tractor was stolen from within.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “If you see anything suspicious please report it immediately.

“It might be the vital piece of information we need. Sussex Police gratefully receive information on all suspicious activity, suspicious persons and Anti-Social Behaviour, occurring in your area.

“We thank you for your vigilance and together, in partnership, we will effectively reduce and detect crime.”

Police have asked anybody who may have witnessed the incidents to call them on 101.
