Summertime bookings for Butlins are booming

Butlins is booming in Bognor Regis.

The holiday company is reporting a large jump in bookings for the peak summer period.

It says the number of holidaymakers who will be visiting its sites in Bognor, Skegness and Minehead between July and September will be up 15 per cent compared with a year ago.

This will take the expected number staying at its sites in that period to some 150,000. Many will be visiting for the first time.

Butlins managing director Richard Bates said he believed the surge was due to the boom in UK holidays and people's intent to stay at home during the hard economic climate.

"We are experiencing an increase in bookings as people are choosing to boycott the continent for many reasons such as the strong euro and the fuel surcharges that are significantly affecting air and sea travel," he stated.

"Why would a family subject themselves to what is typically an awful experience at our airports with long queues, delays and excess luggage charges when they can simply fill up the car with everything they need for a family break and arrive feeling relaxed and ready for a fun holiday?"
