Sunday snooker club in Bognor closes due to dwindling membership

A group of snooker enthusiasts are tabling a bid to return to the green baize after their Sunday sessions on Bognor Pier came to an end due to dwindling numbers.

Gavin Stephens, 18, is determined to chalk up on the pier once again, having been inspired to take up the sport by the world's finest players four years ago.

"I was watching the Masters on TV and really wanted to get into snooker," he said.

"I discovered there were guys playing at the pier and just took it from there."

With coach Frank Sandell at the helm, Gavin, along with friends Luke Stevens and Ashley Graham, became a regular break-builder.

But when Mr Sandell was no longer able to run sessions at the pier, numbers dropped and sessions were forced to stop.

"It's a real shame we can't play any more as it was a good social occasion," said Gavin.

"We didn't just play, shake hands and leave '“ we would stay and have a laugh after the game."

Anyone interested in playing on Sundays from 9am to midday should contact Gavin Stephens on 07772 334123.
