Support for Bexhill Scouts after fire

In the aftermath of the fire, which completely destroyed not only the 9th Bexhill Scout HQ hut but all of their equipment and photographs, business traders in the local area are rallying round to help raise much needed funds towards the rebuilding costs.

One of the official collection points is 'Newsmart' in Western Road, Bexhill, where Michele and John Stocker and Don Pay are hoping that local residents will be generous with their donations.

Michele emphasised the importance of helping to restore the hut and said: "Eighty years of history has gone up in smoke. There must be many residents in Bexhill who have either used or been a part of the Scout hut during that time." She added: "Scouting is an important part of the local community and its a shame for the children and families that this hut and everything in it has been lost."

Not only are cash donations needed but the Scouts are also asking for people to pledge 80 items of equipment and to get things rolling the Bexhill Observer is delighted to donate a TV and DVD player!

Cash donations can be placed in the official collection boxes at 'Newsmart' and 'Consyl Publishing' at the Town Hall Square, where you can also pick up the Pledge form, which must be completed if you wish to pledge an item of equipment from the list below.

The Scouts will contact you to take delivery of the items but would like to point out that at the moment they cannot take delivery of most items as they do not have a hut to store it in.

Other gestures of support have come from Sainsbury's of Bexhill, SBS Consumables and Sussex Police Community Safety.
