On Sunday, September 27 at 2pm, members of the community are welcome to go along to Tangmere Community Garden where the bench will be placed.

Sunday would have been Rory’s 26th birthday.

A keen member of Tangmere Community Garden and a professional horticulturalist, Rory died on December 31, 2014 after he was struck by a train at Woodhorn Lane level crossing in Oving on December 31, 2014.

The community rallied round to pay tribute to the popular young man and the bench in his memory has been purchased thanks to donations and funds raised by people across the area.

Rory was known throughout his home village of Tangmere as a respected gardener with a passion for horticulture.

After leaving Chichester High School for Boys, Rory studied horticulture at Brinsbury College, where he was a leading student in his group.

In a tribute, Tangmere Community Garden described Rory as ‘an environmentalist, a charmer and a prankster’.

A tribute written by members reads: “It took the celebration of his short life to reveal to all his humanity and the incredible number and the variety of the lives that he touched.”
