Teen hurls abuse at policeman

A TEENAGER who launched a foul-mouthed rant against a Rye policeman appeared in court on the same day his pregnant girlfriend was due for a scan on their first child.

Tyler Leach, 18, of Cavix Field, Northiam, admitted using threatening words or behaviour when he came before Hastings Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Andrew Holt, prosecuting, said a police officer on patrol in the Station Approach car park area of Rye on Friday January 28 was sworn at by Leach who seemed to be drunk.

He said “He warned him about his language but he swore again, causing two men who were passing to turn and walk back the way they had come from.

“When the officer tried to approach Leach, he started to laugh and shouted “If you want to talk to me you will have to chase me first.”

When he was arrested, Leach started to cry, the court heard.

Defending himself, Leach said: “I am not going to deny it - I was under the influence of alcohol at the time and I know that what I did was wrong. I am not a violent person and do not even swear usually.

“Everyone makes mistakes. My girlfriend is nine weeks pregnant and going for a scan today - I just want to sort myself out and become a dad. I just want to get it all over and done with.”

Magistrates gave him a six month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £50 costs.
