Thanks given to retiring Bognor Regis Scout stalwarts

Sue and Dave Shimell have led the activities of hundreds of youngsters in the group.

The end of their daily involvement in its work was marked at the Bognor Regis Scout District’s founders dinner.

Carol Sayers, known as Granny Beaver in the Scouts, said: “Sue and David want to allow the next generation to take responsibility after 30 years of active Scouting in the group.

“For the past 40 years, they have been stalwarts of the district, always there to lend a hand.

“Sue’s cakes and shepherd’s pie are amazing and Dave’s ability to find and supply camping equipment are not far short of amazing. Words cannot express the thanks of the boys, girls and leaders for all their hard work.

“Sue and Dave may have taken backward steps, but it is not a case of being out. Sue will be running the scout shop and Dave will continue as the district quartermaster.”

The 2nd Bognor Scouts have new leaders, but more help is still needed with its Beavers and Scouts.

Vicky Hennessy has become the group scout leader before she retires as the district commissioner. Her husband, David, has also retired as the campsite warden. David Morris has replaced him.
