THE Hungry Guest in Petworth continues to reign victorious in the world of food and drink.
The world’s largest blind-tasted food awards, Great Taste, has announced the stars of 2014 – and The Hungry Guest is among the producers celebrating.
Its New York Cheesecake, Lemon and Black Pepper Marmalade and Granola, all made at its kitchens in Petworth, are now able to proudly carry the acclaimed gold and black Great Taste Award logo.
Judged by more than 400 of the most demanding palates belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, members of the Women’s Institute, farmers and a host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.
This year more than 10,000 products were entered into the awards.
The Great Taste logo is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product.
Judges are presented with a spoonful of jam, a pie, a slice of salami, or a cup of espresso, with no wrappings, jars or marks – and they taste, confer and re-taste before making their final decisions.
In total, more than 12 judges will have tasted and commented on each product.
Since opening its doors in 2011, the Hungry Guest’s range has grown from strength to strength.
Its Sprouted Sussex Wheat loaf and Gooseberry, Blackberry and Cox Apple jam won at the awards in 2011 and its Pain d’Alsace and Irish soda breads were triumphant in 2012.
Developing new products and dishes as well as putting a twist on classics has helped The Hungry Guest expand its extensive product range, which continues to grow from strength to strength.
