These latest thefts follow a written report to Midhurst Town Council by the town’s Police Community Support Officer.

As reported in last week’s Observer, the report noted because many houses in the town were listed buildings, owners were forced to replace the old lead with new lead when it was stolen – leading to a bountiful supply for would-be thieves.

This is due to various planning constraints governing much of the town.

There have been numerous problems with lead thefts in the area in recent times and the report added builders in the area had been given lists of banned traders, however thieves were now
going further afield to sell the stolen lead.
