Thousands raised for assistance dog charity

THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for an assistance dog charity at a recent evening reception at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground.

More than 250 people attended the event on Thursday, July 9, helping to raise £4,212 for 
Heyshott-based charity Canine Partners.

The event was co-hosted by Lady Herries of Terregles, supported by Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club and sponsored by Sims Williams. Attendees included television vet Marc Abraham and Sussex cricketer Lewis Hatchett.

Milly Pocock, Canine Partners’ special events officer, said: “Guests 
enjoyed a glass of Pimm’s overlooking the beautiful cricket ground in the sunshine, before watching a demonstration of two of our demonstration dogs Humphrey and Toffee carrying out some of the amazing tasks our dogs do willingly for their partners with physical disabilities.

“Martin Smailes, who has a spinal injury, gave an emotional talk about how much his life has changed since he has been partnered with his assistance dog Keith and how much more independent he has become as a result.

“Mike Fry and The FT also played throughout the evening and there were some fabulous prizes won in the raffle, such as a family ticket to Arundel Castle, 
two tickets for Parham House and Garden, champagne afternoon tea for two 
at Hilton Avistock Park 
and a signed shirt by cricketers at Sussex Country Cricket Club.

“It was a marvellous evening raising funds to support our work, helping people with disabilities.”
