Three arrested over attack

TWO men and a woman from Newhaven have been arrested on suspicion of GBH following a brutal attack which left a Sussex footballer requiring brain surgery.

Allan Ashdown, 25, a player with Seaford Football Club, was discovered semi-conscious in a playground near the Beachy Head Hotel on January 19.

The father of one, from Newhaven, was put on a life support machine and underwent emergency surgery for a blood clot on the brain and treatment for a broken jaw and nose. He has since regained consciousness and has been released from hospital.

John Holmes, assistant manager of Seaford Football Club, said Allan was being cared for by his family. Although not able to speak he was communicating by writing. Mr Holmes added: 'Considering this happened only three weeks ago he has made a dramatic improvement.'
