A PETWORTH tea room has gone the extra mile to help those in need at Christmas.

Jackie Crew and Niki Jones run Tiffins Tea Room in the High Street, Petworth.

They have rallied the community and asked for donations of food to give to the Trussell Trust, which aims to combat poverty and exclusion in the UK and Bulgaria

Jackie said: “As many people may know, Petworth House has a great Feast for the Eyes spectacular this year in their historic kitchens and the town is following that theme with their Christmas window displays.

“At Tiffins, we thought it would be an opportunity to remind people that not everyone is as fortunate as the rest of us, with some people unable to afford food during the year, let alone at Christmas.

“With this in mind, we asked for donations of food to create a window display and highlight the importance of the food bank and its work.

“At the beginning of week, The Trussell Trust collect 60 bags of food donated by Tiffins, our customers and residents in the area.

“We are keen to raise awareness of the growing need for food.”

The Trussell Trust works with churches and communities to open new foodbanks nationwide.

In 2012-13, foodbanks fed 346,992 people around the country.
