Fields in Tillington were the location for some very traditional autumn scenes when Southdean Farm hosted the annual ploughing match.
Organised by the Petworth and District Agricultural Association, the popular event is a chance for ploughmen and women to demonstrate their skills and show off their mighty machines.
The South Downs are always a beautiful setting and the event was blessed with beautiful, sunny weather.
As well as modern machines, there were plenty of vintage tractors on show.
The standard of entries was high, with competitors showing plenty of concentration and skill during the morning’s contest.
The event is a popular fixture on the farming community’s calendar and the occasion is also a welcome opportunity to meet fellow farmers and people from other areas.
Lunch was, of course, a ploughman’s and during the afternoon presentations were made to the winners of the various classes.
