Tough decision for Midhurst in Bloom judges

Judges were once again faced with some tough decisions over winners in this year's Midhurst in Bloom competition run annually by the town council.

John Humphris, Wendy Liddle and David Tunks toured the 12 gardens with the new chairman of the town council’s community and environment committee Lesley Campbell.

“The standard and level of commitment was very high with some familiar names but also some new-comers on the prize list,” said Lesley.

“There had been heavy rain the day before but the gardens were lovely and gave the judges several hours work to come to their unanimous decisions.”

She thanked all entrants adding: “A special thank you also goes to our judges for their time and commitment. We hope to see many more people and groups discovering the joys of gardening.”

Results: Larger Gardens: winner of the Rotherhill Cup Mike Nobes (Guillards Oak); joint runners up: Alison Procter (Park Crescent) and Jill Quilter (Poplar Way): Best Up and Coming Garden: Lesley Rushton (Bourne Way): Best Courtyard Garden: John Pringle (Russell Court); Smaller Gardens, joint winners: Anne Southin (Bourne Way) and Maria Harding (Tufts Meadow)
