THE Tour of Britain will not be returning to the Midhurst and Petworth area in 2015, organisers of the cycle race have confirmed.
Last year, spectators lined the streets of Easebourne, Petworth and Wisborough Green in their thousands to watch the race.
However, despite the success of the event in Sussex, organisers have announced it will not return this year, with the final stage in London the closest for local cycling enthusiasts.
Towns and villages across Sussex welcomed the penultimate stage of the race with open arms on September 13. Sir Bradley Wiggins was among the star names who raced through the area as part of the longest stage of last year’s tour.
The 2015 tour will include eight stages in parts of Scotland and Wales alongside the north of England, the midlands and East Anglia.
Stage 7 of last year’s event began in Camberley and passed through Surrey, West and East Sussex before finishing 140 miles later in Brighton.
