UPDATE: A27 partially closed as 12 fire engines tackle Chichester thatch fire

A thatch fire in Chichester is being tackled by 12 fire engines with the A27 partially closed this evening (Saturday, October 29).

Firefighters from across the district have been sent to a property on Crockerhill after the initial call at around 5.45pm, including the aerial ladder platform.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service tweeted the roof and first floor of the property is well alight.

The A27 was closed eastbound at Crockerhill between Chichester and Fontwell because of the fire but one lane is now blocked with the county council urging motorists to avoid the area.
