Trainers are at the ready

A PENSIONER is pulling on his trainers and running his first marathon, all in the name of charity.

Adrian Jones, 66, has been training hard to tackle the challenge of a lifetime when he competes in the Brighton Marathon in support of the Aldingbourne Trust.

He has been working hard to make sure he can keep up with his 30-year-old son and running partner.

Adrian said: “I have given myself a target of four hours in which to complete the marathon. If I do this, I will be very happy.

“The training is going very well, although I’m having to rest at the moment as my ankle has been twinging a bit.

“I hope to build up to 20 miles before the marathon. I know then I can complete it.

“Raising sponsorship for the Aldingbourne Trust is spurring me on. It is a great charity and I love working at the Aldingbourne Country Centre with everyone.”

Adrian works at the centre near Fontwell every Monday to put his carpentry skills to good use, creating farm animals to go on each hole of its mini-golf course.

The trust supports adults with learning disabilities to live independently and to have the same chances as everyone else.
