BREAKING NEWS: 26 Littlehampton homes hit by flooding - with video

EMERGENCY services are helping residents with a huge clear-up operation after 26 homes in South Terrace, Littlehampton, were flooded during torrential rain in the early hours of this morning (Monday, June 11).

Some basement flats were flooded to a depth of about 4ft with a mixture of sewage and rainwater.

It’s thought that the flooding was caused by the sewerage system not being able to cope with the high volume of rain falling.

More than six hours after the emergency began, dozens of firefighters, police, paramedics and council staff are still at the scene and pumping out of the affected properties is continuing.

A large part of South Terrace and several side streets have been cordoned off by police as the recovery operation continues.

Angmering was also affected by flooding when a torrent of water poured through the village. Some homes are thought to have suffered flooding damage, but it’s not clear if any businesses in the centre of the village were affected.
