Two crews from Littlehampton and East Preston, accompanied by Worthing’s heavy rescue tender, attended the collision and made the area safe before leaving at 2.42pm.

Then, less than a hour later, a fire crew from Bognor was called to attend another incident in the road, this time at the Tesco garage forecourt.

A small quantity of diesel – about six litres – was spilt at the forecourt.

The team from Bognor spent 15 minutes making the area safe, using sand to soak up the fuel.

The also gave advice to the garage’s staff before leaving the scene at 3.50pm.
