Road safety improvement scheme to continue in Chichester

A road safety improvement scheme, which will cost around £150,000, is set to continue in Chichester.

A second phase of improvement works, comprising carriageway resurfacing, is scheduled to take place at the junction of Kennel Hill and Selhurst Park Road (adjacent to Goodwood Racecourse) from December 7 to 11.

The first phase of improvement works, which involved signage improvements, took place in January.

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said: "Temporary closures of both roads will be required throughout the works, with signed diversions via Town Lane, the A286 Lavant Road, the A285 Westhampnett Road, Madgwick Lane, Claypit Lane, New Road and New Barn Hill (and vice-versa)."

The Weald & Downland Museum, The Trundle and Goodwood Racecourse’s west entrances will be accessible via Singleton and Town Lane.

Goodwood Racecourse’s south entrances, Goodwood Country Park, Cass Sculpture Foundation and The Goodwood Hotel will be accessible via Chichester and New Barn Hill.

Goodwood Aerodrome, The Goodwood Golf Course and Goodwood House will be accessible via Chichester and Claypit Lane.

The scheme will cost approximately £150,000, the county council said.

It is one of three road safety schemes across West Sussex, 'at a total cost of about £370,000', and 'in response to calls from the community for improvements'.

The spokesperson added: "They are part of the £19million worth of improvement works taking place on West Sussex’s roads and footways between September 2020 and March 2021. Start dates are all subject to factors such as severe weather."
