Tributes to Worthing boy who lost leukaemia battle

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy from Worthing has lost his fight against leukaemia.

Luke Cory died at his home in Alberta Road in the early hours of Monday morning after his health suddenly deteriorated.

This week, his aunt Lorraine Cory paid tribute to him, describing him as an "amazing little boy".

"All the way through his condition he stayed cheeky and courageous and was just amazing," she said.

"It is just such a huge loss to everybody who knew him."

Friend's tribute

Family friend Martin Candler paid tribute to Luke, saying: "To 'little' Luke, you will remain in my heart and my memories as the one and only 'cheeky little chap'.

"It made my day to see your face light up when I came to see you and I will always remember the fun we had in our computer gaming sessions."

Luke was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in February last year and underwent chemotherapy.

However, the disease came back, leading to a bone marrow transplant in January.

Family's shock

The family was given a reprieve until the disease returned in July, with doctors finally admitting they could do no more.

His death this week has left his family in shock.

Lorraine said: "He took quite a bad turn for the worst about a week ago and just went downhill quite rapidly."

Throughout his illness, family and friends have raised money to fund treatment and trips for Luke to enjoy in his last few months.

A week before his health went downhill, Luke was able to enjoy a trip with his parents, Stef and Fleur, to Center Parcs.

Fantastic support

Lorraine said the family was "overwhelmed" by the support.

"People were absolutely fantastic and we can't thank everybody enough.

"I know Stef and Fleur were just quite taken aback by the support they got from everybody '“ from complete strangers to the people they know."

Fund-raising events included a band night, which raised 5,716, a kickboxing marathon at Gym Extreme, Worthing, and numerous events at Bar Breeze.

The family plan to continue their efforts to raise money for a holiday caravan at Selsey Caravan Park so children with cancer and their families can go on short breaks.

As yet, plans for his funeral have not been confirmed.
