Coffee Morning: Ann Barker’s latest coffee morning, last Thursday, was another great success. Supporters were once again welcomed with a good cup of coffee, Ann’s delicious home-baked jumbo-sized biscuits (in a choice of several appetising flavours), convivial company and the chance to win another of Richard and Sheila Corke’s lambs duly prepared for the freezer, or one of several other raffle prizes. The lucky winner of the lamb was Peter Meister (his second, we understand). The event raised the record sum of £385 for the improvement and maintenance of St Mary’s Community Hall, and as this was the eighth in the series (not the sixth as previously thought) altogether they must have raised some £2,500. Members of the Hall Management Committee are very grateful to Ann for this fine achievement, and she in her turn would like to thank her team of helpers, the very generous presenters of raffle prizes and everyone who went along.

Mobile Library: If you read this in time, this morning (Friday) the Mobile Library will be at Lower Cross between 10.15 and 10.40, and at the Hall between 10.55 and 11.15. Do make the most of it while we still have it!

Rye Show: Like our Hall, the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital largely depends on fundraising events to keep it going, the annual Rye Show being its biggest. This year’s takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at Lea Barn Farm, Rye Foreign, starting at 8am and continuing well into the afternoon. Besides show jumping, there will be a dog show (starting at 10.30am), a display of classic cars, country crafts, bloodhounds, heavy horses, terrier racing, a dog Grand National, up to 20 birds of prey, mini quad bikes, a bouncy castle and a big raffle. The Sussex Stompers will provide live music. An even better show than last year, and altogether wonderful value for a modest entry fee of £5 per car, all in aid of one of the best possible local causes!
