More than a dozen firefighters, supported by police officers, paramedics, the coastguard and Littlehampton’s lifeboat crews took part in a widespread search of the river between Arundel and Littlehampton yesterday evening.

However, despite a two hour hunt, teams could find no trace of any person in the water and were stood down.

Police and lifeboat crews resumed the operation at about 11.30am this morning.

Both of Littlehampton’s lifeboats are checking the river while the police, based at the lifeboat station in Fisherman’s Quay, use an unmanned aerial drone to search from the sky above.

Updates to follow as they come.
