POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a break-in at a Littlehampton car lot last Wednesday night, when vandals caused 10,000-worth of damage.

Mark McPhilemy and his business partner Andrew Barnett were shocked to find smashed car windscreens, light assemblies and spent fire extinguishers at Cushty Motors in Forsters Yard on Thursday morning.

It is thought access to the car lot was gained through a skylight window in the workshop roof and a metal instrument used.

"It doesn t look like a car lot any more. It just looks like a scrapyard," said Mr McPhilemy.

Neither he nor Mr Barnett can understand why the incident took place as they said they were completely unaware of anyone holding a grudge against them.

He added: "If someone has a grievance, they should come up to you and sort it out properly."
