VIDEO: Horsham man honoured with Ministry of Defence medal

A 90-year-old man from Horsham received his Arctic Medal from the Ministry of Defence in a ceremony on Friday July 5.

The medal was presented to Cornelius ‘Tony’ Snelling by the chairman of Horsham District Council, Philip Circus.

Mr Snelling said: “It is a great pleasure indeed to receive this medal after so many years but I do so with a tinge of sadness on two accounts.

“Firstly, I remember my shipmates who did not make it home after the long struggle at war and, secondly, for the death of Commander Eddie Grenfell who very recently died and who fought so hard for recognising the horrific losses suffered by the Arctic Convoys in this part of the Second World War.”
