VIDEO: Introducing LUMO - a new range of stylish, light-up cycle wear

A CHICHESTER entrepreneur has launched a range of innovative cycling gear to help riders stay safe on the roads and look good at the same time.

Lucy Brown and fiancée Doug Bairner have just launched LUMO on Kickstarter and hope their range of jackets and bags with unique built-in LED lights will see them tap into a global market of cycle wear.

Last year 76 cyclists were killed or seriously injured in West Sussex alone, and though 92 per cent of fatalities happen in low light conditions, only 10 per cent of cyclists wear hi-visibility clothing.

Through LUMO, Lucy and Doug, who live in Chichester, hope to not only make cycling safer but also stylish too.

Launching a project on Kickstarter is all or nothing. In the case of LUMO, they need £50,000 worth of pre-orders by the middle of January to go into production.

Despite launching less than two weeks ago, they already have £30,000 of that target pledged, though if they fail to reach the £50,000 mark by the deadline they won’t get any of the funding they need.

Should the products go to market, the couple also plan to give 10 per cent of their annual profits to cycling-related causes such as World Bicycle Relief.
