Charlotte Loukes at The Cotton Wool Store in Petworth’s market Square was been the collecting point for several years and during that time thousands of tiny hats have been donated to the hospital.

“Unfortunately owing to rising overheads and falling trade, our shop will be closing on July 23 and the business will be going online,” said Charlotte.

“I have collected hats, knitted by local people, for the maternity unit for sometime now. Hundreds of hats are sent along with premature clothing, every month.

“I am asking if a local business would be willing to take on the collection. The knitters drop off regularly and usually there are several hundred collected around once a month by local midwife, Jane. I have copies of the pattern used for the hats but any newborn and or premature pattern would be fine.”

Charlotte can be contacted at the shop until July 23 on 01798 344334.
