Warriors drop into exhibition

Local craftspeople and artists who belong to Starlings Art and Craft Collective and Murmurations Gallery in Bexhill got to meet with the traditional tribal dancers and were able to share and swap ideas.

“The group approached us as they were interested in seeing how modern art and crafts skills were practiced here in the UK,” explained Joe Nguyen, the owner and director of Starlings and Murmurations,

“The group, who are appearing as one of the event in the upcoming Roaring 20s festival this Saturday, expressed an interest in learning about our practices, so I thought it would be a lovely opportunity to invite our members in to talk to them and share ideas as well as show them around the gallery as part of an impromptu cultural exchange.”

During the hour long visit, the Maasai Mara dancers were shown works of art and chatted shared ideas about craft practices here in the UK and those down in Kenya. At the end of the event, the guests performed a sneak preview of one of the dance they are scheduled to do this weekend’s festival.
