Winds of up to 70 mph, with isolated gusts of 80 mph, are forecast between 6pm on Friday, February 14 and 10am on Saturday, February 15 along the most exposed parts of the coast.

The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel, trees being uprooted and possible damage to buildings.

As these very strong winds will be accompanied by large waves along the coast, be aware of the potentially dangerous conditions and also possible coastal flooding.

The public are advised to keep away from the coastline during this period, and to secure or store items such as garden furniture.

Further heavy rain is expected to accompany the winds during Friday evening and Saturday.

Four times the amount of average rainfall for West Sussex has already fallen so far this year, so groundwater levels remain high.
