Well known Optometrist back in business

A LOCAL well respected Optometrist, who had almost taken early retirement, has been head-hunted by Barraclough and Stiles opticians.

John Thompson, who has lived and worked in Bexhill for over thirty years, is a familiar face in the town. He recently left Vision Express, and whilst considering his options said he was delighted to be offered the position at the town's independent opticians Barraclough and Stiles.

Along with being a qualified Optometrist, John also managed a large number of Optical businesses.

He was MD of FA Batemans - which later merged with GC Batemans and subsequently acquired by Vision Express in 2008 - where he was Professional Services Director. Despite being responsible for over 80 practices in the South of England John always maintained his work as an Optometrist, working one day a week in Bexhill.

John has served on national professional committees, including the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians.

Of his new appointment John said:

"I am delighted that I am able to have more time with each person so that I can really tailor an optical solution to suit their lifestyle. The environment at Barraclough and Stiles is very friendly and relaxed which is great for the customer.

"The business also provides me with all the latest technology with facilities for retinal imaging, and is soon to invest in computerised test charts. I now have direct access to the Managing Director of the company. This allows for a quicker response to suggestions and ideas for ways to improve service for our customers."
