"We're made of strong stuff" - sub-zero educational heroes

The list of schools succumbing to the weather grew ever-longer this week, but throughout the onset one never wavered.

Staff and pupils at Charters Ancaster Prep and Nursery, on Gunters Lane, did up their last button and shoved hands in their pockets to brave the cold each day - the only school in Bexhill to stay open throughout the week.

Connor Murphy, 10, said: "It's been so much fun with everyone, we are trying to build an igloo."

A spokesman for the school said over 75% of children had made it in, some from as far as Eastbourne and Battle. Normal lessons stoically continued, though punctuated by regular snow activities like those pictured here.

On Thursday the attendance was even higher as the whole school went to see the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk in Eastbourne.

11-year-old Eleanor Nesbitt said: "We are made of strong stuff at Charters Ancaster.

"It's been great fun being at school in the snow with all our friends.
