West Sussex Young Farmers celebrate 70 years

THERE was a trip down memory lane when more than 200 people gathered for a reunion at Butcherlands Farm in Ball Cross.

They were all former members of the West Sussex Young Farmers.

And as they gathered at the home of Ivan Wadey, they discovered that every decade was represented for the past 70 years.

The West Sussex Federation was founded in 1944 and there were former Young Farmers whose memories went back to the very beginnings of the group.

It was an occasion for old friends who had not met for many years to catch up.

Lunch was provided by current members of the Young Farmers who produced salads and lamb roast, with a traditional apple pie for pudding

Although it was all about the reunion and covering costs, organisers were delighted to raise money for charity.

Spokesman Debbie Bray said: “We were over the moon to raise nearly £1,700.”

This will be split between the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and Macmillian Cancer Support.

If anyone is interested in joining a Young Farmers club (ages from 11-26 years) they should contact Lucy at the YFC office on 01273 892101
