Church: Westfield Church celebrates Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 5, with a Festival Family Service at 9.30am. Please bring your gifts for donation to ‘The Hope Kitchen’. This is followed by Harvest Lunch in the Parish Hall at 1pm (soup, ploughman’s and a dessert) for £6 (children under 12 £3). Tickets may still be available from the Churchwardens or from Archers Butchers if you are quick. The regular communion services are celebrated on Sunday at 8am and at 9.30am.

Autumn Tidy: The village autumn tidy is next Saturday, October 11. Please join the volunteers clearing litter from around the village. Come to the Parish Hall from 9am-12 noon to collect litter pickers and high-viz jackets. Refreshments are provided at the Hall. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

The Friendship Club: meets on Monday, October 12 from 2-3.30pm in the Parish Hall for dominoes, Scrabble, whist, bingo, tea & biscuits. New members are welcome; details from Jean Hobson on 01424 753095.

Westfield Horticultural Society: holds its AGM in Westfield Community Dining Hall on Wednesday, October 15, with refreshments from 7pm before business starts at 7.30pm.

Churchyard tidy: The churchyard tidy up is on Saturday, October 18 from 9.30am-12 noon. Please come with suitable tools to help clear weeds and brambles and to trim hedges. Details from John 01424 751129.

Westfield Scouts: are holding a Jumble Sale in Westfield Community Hall at 2.30pm on Saturday, October 18. Donations of jumble are welcome at the hall from 1pm, but please note that we cannot accept computer monitors or TVs, or items larger than a chair.

Community Hall: Looking further ahead, the 30th Anniversary of the opening of Westfield Community Hall is being celebrated at the end of the month. Senior residents are invited to a Tea Party on Saturday, October 25 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Community Hall. The fun continues in the evening with live music and dancing to ‘Sarah G and the other three’. Bring your own food; bar available. Contact [email protected] for more details or to book tickets (£2). National Trust: Rye and District Association of the National Trust invites you to a talk at Brede Village Hall at 2pm on Thursday, October 16. Ian Porter will give an illustrated presentation on the subject of Women and the Home Front in WWI. Admission is £3 (members) or £4 (non-members), including refreshments.
