Woman rescued from river at Midhurst

A woman who fell into the River Rother at Woolbeding near Midhurst at around midday today (Friday June 24) has been rescued by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The woman is reported to have gone into the water to rescue her dog, but was unable to get out.

It is believed a companion with her alerted the emergency services.

She is now out of the water and is being treated by paramedics at the scene.

The emergency services were called to the junction of the A272 with Woolbeding Lane.

The woman had been walking on National Trust land close to the river by Woolbeding Gardens.

Police, ambulance and fire crews from Midhurst, Chichester and East Wittering were quickly on the scene along with the fire service’s technical rescue unit.

The woman is believed to be shocked but uninjured.
