WOMAN'S MIRACULOUS HORROR CRASH RECOVERY

WHEN Shahna Thwaites was involved in a high speed car accident 10 years ago, her injuries were so extensive doctors thought she wouldn't survive.

But after years of hard work and support from her family, she has made a remarkable recovery.

Shahna, 28, from Barnham, was in a coma for 23 days on a life support machine after the accident.

The crash happened when she was just 18 and on her way home from Glastonbury with a group of friends.

The driver lost control causing the car to flip twice in the air at between 70 and 80mph.

Tragically, two people out of the five in the car died.

Five days into the coma, the hospital asked her mum and dad if they wanted the machine switched off but they said no, and after coming through a number of operations doctors started to withdraw sedation.

Mum Lynda said: "The doctor said she would make a recovery and it would be a long, long process; they did tell us she would never speak."

In fact, Shahna managed to learn how to talk again and she also had to learn how to walk.

She took her first steps on July 8, 1998, just over a year after the accident.
