WORK finally started this week on the new Grange Community and Leisure Centre in Midhurst.

On Tuesday (September 4), builders began digging up the public tennis courts.

This is the very first stage of the construction, which hopes to see the new centre opening in spring 2014.

Julian Goodale, chairman of the Trustees of the Grange Community Association, said: “I’m delighted the work has started – it’s absolutely fantastic.”

The current Grange Leisure Centre will remain open until the new facility is built.

Alternative tennis courts are available at June Lane.

In the coming weeks work will begin on the Grange’s car park, which will lead to a reduction in the number of spaces available for visitors.

Building work was due to start last January, but there were a few delays getting all parties to agree final details.
