Yapton cat stolen from Co-op store

Rachel Opryszko, 50, says her cat was stolen after it escaped from her Yapton home.

Rachel said the 11-year-old Persian cat, ‘Whisper’ made its way from its home into the local Co-op store - where it was taken.

“I just want my cat back,” said Rachel.

“Whisper is going senile and urgently needs her medication.

“I’ve had her for 11 years and I am so devastated that she is coming to the end of her life and I don’t want her to die with a stranger.”

The Persian cat, which answers to its name, was last seen in the Co-op store on Tuesday, September 22 around 5pm.

Sophie Boxall from the Southern Co-operative said: “We are aware that the cat came into our store and that a colleague placed it back outside.

“We are also aware that a member of the public then picked up the cat when it returned into the store and took it outside, but we do not know what that person’s intentions were in doing so.

“If the cat is reported missing or stolen by the owner, we will be more than happy to assist the police.”

Whisper is white with pale grey/blue eyes and grey ears, paws and a tail.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for a woman who picked up a cat outside a shop in Yapton to contact them.

“The 11-year-old Persian is a bit of a ‘regular’ at the Co-op in Main Road, Yapton and on Tuesday, September 22, had been removed by staff.

“A woman who had been in the shop stopped to cuddle the cat and was seen to walk away with it, but it is not known what became of it after that.

“The owner of the cat is obviously worried about the disappearance of her pet. If you are that woman or you have any information about the incident, please email [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 803 of 23/09.”
