Young woman rescued from Chichester Canal

Firefighters dived into Chichester Canal to rescue a young woman who got into trouble in the basin early yesterday evening (Sunday, August 9).

The woman, who was said to be approximately 18 years old, was saved by three fireman and is said to be fine after being taken to hospital for checks.

A West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “It happened at around 6.30pm on Sunday evening.

“We were called to reports of a female in the water at Chichester Canal.

“A female casualty was rescued from the water by three fire service personnel dressed in dry suits.

“She was assessed by ambulance service before being taken to hospital for a check.”

The spokeswoman added that the woman was aged ‘approximately 18’ and ‘was absolutely fine’.
