THE disastrous decision on the King Edward VII site, well grieved by numerous previous letters, confirmed what many had feared – the South Downs board just adds another layer of bureaucracy.

One must query the £645,000 fund it distributes for sustainability.

Whatever one’s interpretation of the word, it should not be the business of the board to give loans for shops.

It should be called a slush fund.
