DOWN MEMORY LANE Can you help find copies of Whyke book?

READER Peter Few has set a couple of challenges which Down Memory Lane regulars will enjoy getting their teeth into.

He writes: “I was wondering if any readers would have a copy of the book Aspects of Whyke or, better still, know where I could obtain seven copies.

“I have three brothers and three sisters and would dearly like for us all to have a copy.

“I believe it was written and compiled by a member of the Residents’ Association.

“I was first made aware of its existence by a family friend and former neighbour Janet (nee) Walker.

“I have seen a copy in the library but have been unable to find any copies for sale.

“The book was a small, A5 size (I think) and in paperback. It had many pictures of the area and lots of information, too.

“I would also be interested in any photos, documents, newspaper clippings and stories that anyone might care to share with me from the area of Whyke.

“I would also be interested in any photos of the old white house which was located on the corner of Kingsham Avenue and Cherry Orchard Road and the wood yard which sat on the opposite corner.”

So over to you! Send us your memories of Whyke, and any old pictures, and we’ll publish them and send them to Peter.

So what do you recall about Whyke? Do you remember the old white house? And can you help find copies of the book?
