Former town mayor of Bognor Regis, Sylvia Olliver, of North Bersted, brought the photograph into the Observer’s Bognor office.

She said: “Around 50 years after the end of the second world war, the former Norwegian airmen who had been stationed in England met up again in Bognor Regis.

“I was so proud to meet them at the RAFA Club in Waterloo Square in April, 1994, during my first time as mayor of Bognor Regis.

“I am standing next to
Mr Inge Ovstedal who
settled in Bognor Regis.
He married a local girl who travelled to Norway with him after the war.

“She told me how short of food they were even then. It had been worse during the German occupation when people were starving.”
