Action hotting up in polo's Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup

League matches in the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship continue at Cowdray Park on an almost daily basis.

Each of the 18 teams in the competition have now played at least two matches in their quest to win the world’s most coveted polo trophy.

There have been wins for locally-based teams 1870, Enigma, Sumaya and Salkeld but much could change in the lead-up to the quarter-finals over the weekend of July 9 and 10.

Meanwhile the June Cup final was played at Cowdray Park Polo Club’s Ambersham 3 ground on Sunday– and what a thriller it was.

This was a 0-4 goal tournament with the final pitting Ausherra (Ralph Richardson, Tom Swerling, Nick Pepper and Oliver Browne) against the black and golds of Combe (Howard Guy-Harding, Nigel Warr, James Rome, James Glasson).

The teams were evenly matched and neither was willing to give up their right to the silverware easily until the final whistle had gone.

In the end Ausherra took the honours 6-5.
